Slipform Concrete
Tavares Concrete Co began slipform concrete operations in the early 1990’s, and over those years has become a leader in the field of this specialized construction.
We can slipform curbs, gutters, medians, sidewalks, ditches, median barriers and bridge parapets. Experience and innovation are the key ingredients for a successful slipform project.
The Right Mix
Our expert crews have mastered the art form of mixing concrete. They know the correct moisture ratios and vibration levels to produce concrete that will stand up to the requirements of the project. We don’t just ‘mix and go’, we constantly check that the consistency is correct, and adjust on-the-fly if needed so that the last item extruded is of the same superior quality as the first.
The Process
Slipforming is a construction method where concrete is poured into a continuously moving form. It’s much like 3-d printing, but with concrete. It allows our crews to quickly create the products without stopping to fill a series of static molds. Not only is it faster, but the quality of the output is very high when performed by crews as skilled as those at Tavares Concrete.
We use top-notch GOMACO slipformers that follow an established string line that sets the boundaries for the output.
Once extruded, the perfectly-mixed concrete drops into a mold; we can deliver any shape needed, including the specific shapes required for VDOT projects.
Once the new item is extruded, our crew’s finishers come behind to hand-tool any features specified for the job, to create the broom finish and to lay the curing compound that will strengthen the surface.
We work fast, but never rush so that we don’t compromise the quality of the final result.
